The University of Michigan Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology's graduate program broke into the top 10 with a ranking of sixth by the US News & World Report last week, which ranks universities nationwide.

This ranking was based on peer assessment and the last time US News released comparable evaluations for a biology speciality was in 2014 when the U-M placed 12th in ecology.

U-M officials note that rankings are just one measure of an academic program. What matters most in choosing a school is the match between the particular interests, abilities and ambitions of each student with the specific programs, approaches and opportunities offered by a particular school.
