How to Apply

MCSP welcomes students from all schools and colleges within the University of Michigan.  Once you have been accepted to the University AND submit your enrollment deposit, you can apply to MCSP through the Housing Administration website.

As soon as we receive your housing information including the MCSP short essay, we will review your application to the program. Admission to our program is done on a rolling basis through mid-summer.

Applying to MCSP is easy. Here's how:

Step 1

Decide that MCSP is the right place for you. Check our our programs, classes, initiatives, news and events to see what we do in our community. 

Step 2

Pay your U-M enrollment deposit. Welcome to the University of Michigan! 

Step 3

Receive your Housing Application Information. Apply for Housing via the Housing website

Step 4

Click here for Application Instructions to Michigan Learning Communities (MLCs). Indicate your preference to be in the Michigan Community Scholars Program (MCSP) and write an application essay answering the following question: "Describe what you expect to gain from and contribute to the Michigan Community Scholars Program. (Maximum 2 pages, double-spaced, 12-point Times.)

Apply by May 8 if you received your housing application before May 7. If you receive your housing application after May 7, you have ten (10) days to apply to MCSP or other MLCs. 

Step 5

Receive an acceptance letter from MCSP. Congratulations! 

Step 6

Attend Summer Orientation to learn more about MCSP and register for MCSP courses. For a list of course offerings, refer to the MCSP Course Guide

Step 7

Move into West Quad with MCSP in the fall. Welcome to MCSP!
