Student Groups

The Department has several student-run groups which all undergraduate majors and minors are welcome to join!

Eta Sigma Phi  – the national undergraduate honorary society for Classical Sudies.
Members are elected by local chapters which have been chartered by the society. The purposes of the society, in the words of the Constitution, are "to develop and promote interest in classical study among the students of colleges and universities; to promote closer fraternal relationships among students who are interested in classical study, including inter-campus relationships; to engage generally in an effort to stimulate interest in classical study, and in the history, art, and literature of ancient Greek and Rome."
This group meets weekly and sponsors faculty talks, study abroad information sessions, Classical Game Nights and much more. If you are interested please contact the group's 2017-18 President, Molly Schaub ( with questions.

Archaeology Club – For undergraduates interested in discussing their own archaeological interest, knowledge, and research with students and faculty from the many homes of archaeology on campus. Contact for more information.

Hellenic Student Association – The Hellenic Student Association aims to represent and showcase Hellenism on the University of Michigan campus; to encourage a diverse student membership; and give members the opportunity to be immersed in Hellenic culture. Hellenism is defined as the cultural heritage of Hellenes both in the Homeland and Diaspora. See their website:
