About

Melissa Singh, EdD, LCSW, MS-HSA is a USC CET (Center for Excellence) Fellow, and SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) Leader and Change Maker. She identifies as a British Guyanese, Hindu, Xennial social work educator committed to equity-mindedness, inclusion, and social justice. Dr. Singh is an Associate Professor in Social Work, Practicum Education at the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, where she teaches in the MSW and DSW programs. In 2016, a program that she co-led won the Award for Innovative Teaching in Social Work Education from SAGE/CSWE for Educating Macro Social Work Students. In 2017, Dr. Singh was awarded the Hutto Patterson Distinguished Faculty Award for excellence in teaching; service to the university, the school, and the community; and accessibility to students. Currently, she is a Co-Investigator on a $3.25M HRSA grant to assist educationally and economically disadvantaged and historically underrepresented students.

Current Work

Dr. Singh is a Fulbright Specialist, a program of the US Department of State designed as a short-term global project-based exchange and plans to work on topics such as violence against women, environmental justice, and interprofessional Education with a focus on BIPOC learners. During this exchange, the US institution will also learn from her experiences aboard. In her faculty role, she will further disseminate this information through presentations and articles for increased accessibility to the information. Dr. Singh continues to develop Professional Development and Online Learning with a focus on ADEI in the School of Social Work to increase current knowledge, confidence, and career opportunities while acknowledging difference, power, and inequities.
