Date: January 28th-29th, 2016

With the Center for Policy Research and Strategy (CPRS) at the American Council on Education (ACE), the NCID convened leaders in higher education practice, scholarship, and law at the University of Michigan. During the convening, scholars and practitioners created an agenda to advance diversity research by analyzing what institutions can do to support the vital work of developing more diverse, equitable, and inclusive higher education resources. This convening and our ongoing conversations with participants and national leaders laid the foundation to:

  • Bring forward a comprehensive research agenda across institutions, employing different methods and reflecting a range of scholarly perspectives that will inform, protect and defend our commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion in our institutions and across higher education.
  • Translate research into multiple formats that can be used to inform new, emerging, and effective practices across institutions; build capacity among individual institutions to develop and assess their own practices; and assess the collective impact of these efforts within higher education and society.
  • Create, mobilize, and sustain an intergenerational commitment to programs of research that will inform the defense of diversity in higher education. In this regard, we want to make a point of recognizing that the work started by one group of scholars must be understood, interpreted and ultimately bettered by those succeeding them.
