Thy Phu Lecture

Thursday, January 18, 2018
3:00-4:30 PM
3154 Angell Hall Map
The Visual Culture Workshop RIW hosts Thy Phu, professor of English at Western Ontario University.

In her forthcoming book Warring Visions, Phu provides a new visual history of the war in Vietnam by focusing on the works of Vietnamese photographers. This lecture explores the cultural function of Vietnam War reenactments for diasporic Vietnamese communities and argues that for these communities, reenactments resolve public feelings of loss, mediate ties to adopted sites of resettlement, and briefly conjure alternative futures.
