Sponsor Student Careers

Our burgeoning internship program, supported by the newly established Student Career Development Fund, is gearing up for another exciting year. We believe that English is one of the most versatile majors a student can choose at Michigan. A number of our students have opportunities to work in internship placements, especially over the summer months, putting their skills as researchers, writers, storytellers, and speakers to work in placements outside the classroom. Many of our undergraduate and graduate interns are being offered positions and/or extensions of their internships upon graduation. Our recently appointed English Department Internship Director, Lisa Makman, assists students in identifying suitable opportunities. To date, she has established partnerships with over 120 for profit and non-profit organizations across the state. You can support our students by offering them internship positions or shadowing opportunities at your place of work, by providing them with mentorship as they explore possible career pathways, and by sponsoring them in internship positions.

Be a workplace liaison

Are you or your organization able to offer an internship or shadowing opportunity to one or more of our English Department graduate or undergraduate students this spring or summer? Job shadowing and internships can enable students to explore careers and develop professional knowledge.

Be a mentor

Are you willing to serve as a contact to offer career guidance and mentorship to seniors and recent graduates who are interested in your field? Your guidance can help students to make informed choices about their academic and career paths.

Be a sponsor

Are you interested in sponsoring a current graduate or undergraduate student who has already found a department-approved summer internship in your field of endeavor by granting them a stipend? Your sponsorship opens up exciting opportunities for students.
