Transfer Credit Policies and Procedures

The Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) allows students to take and transfer courses from other institutions to UM for Complex Systems Minor credit through the departmental approval process.  Transfer courses may be applied toward your minor but a minimum number of credits in-residence is required. Please contact cscs@umich.edu for more information about the required minimum number of in-residence credits. Online courses are not generally accepted for transfer credit.  Petitions in exceptional circumstances may be considered. Approval for credit of courses transferred from another institution toward minor requirements must go through the CSCS Transfer Credit Evaluation Process.

Currently Enrolled UM Students

Check the guidelines for the Complex Systems Minor to find the list of core and elective classes. Check the Transfer Credit Equivalency (TCE) website to see if any core or elective classes have already been approved for transfer.

·       If the class is listed on the TCE website as transferring as equivalent credit then no additional steps are required.

·       If the class is listed on the TCE website as transferring as departmental credit then the course has been reviewed and was not found to be an exact equivalent to any of our courses at UM. Please send us information as outlined below so we can evaluate the course.

·       If the class is not listed on the TCE website, then we have not reviewed the course.

In order to request evaluation or re-evaluation for any course(s) related to the Complex Systems Minor, the external institution's course instructor and/or department teaching or offering the course(s) will need to send:

·       a detailed sample syllabus

·       copies of exams & quizzes

·       laboratory experiments (when applicable)

The material should be submitted to the Center for the Study of Complex Systems for review at cscs@umich.edu .
