Motivations for Symplectic Geometry
Tuesday, March 28, 2017

I plan to discuss some of the motivating factors that lead to the study of symplectic forms, as well as what continues to make the geometry interesting to this day. My goal is to prove Darboux's Theorem, which essentially proves that there are no local invariants in symplectic geometry. If time permits, I may also talk about some of the ideas behind symplectic embedding problems. Speaker(s): Nawaz Sultani (UM)
