The late Malcolm L. Denise (B.A., '35, J.D., '37) established the Denise Philosophy Endowment, honoring Theodore C. Denise (B.A., '42, Ph.D., '55), in 1986. For many years, Mr. Denise or the late Shirley Denise supplemented the Endowment. These contributions, together with matching funds from the Ford Motor Company, have enabled the Department to provide enhanced research support to faculty, especially assistant professors and other new members of the faculty. In recent years, the Endowment has been enhanced through the generosity of other members of the Denise family. The late Theodore Denise was Professor of Philosophy at Syracuse University, where he chaired the Department for more than a decade. His co-authored textbook, Great Traditions in Ethics, is now in its twelfth edition.
