Online Advising During COVID 19
To support the University of Michigan's efforts to help minimize the spread of the COVID-19 virus, all meetings with our advisors will be virtual or via telephone until the university returns to regular operation.
Academic Advising
The DAAS Faculty and Staff remain available for student advising by phone, video chat, and/or email during the COVID crisis. We are eager to provide assistance to all students, including DAAS majors and minors, students currently taking DAAS classes, and students who may want to take their first DAAS classes. Please reach out to us if you have questions about spring/summer term classes, fall classes, DAAS major or minor requirements, or any other questions that we might help to answer.
Matthew Countryman | Chair
As the Department Chair and an academic advisor in DAAS, Professor Matthew Countryman is available to mentor students and offer general academic support, including suggestions for career planning, honing writing and research skills, improving course performance, navigating the university's student support offices, and finding internships. Professor Countryman works closely with the DAAS Advising Team to ensure that students have access to a wide range of information.

Megan Sweeney | Director of Undergraduate Studies
As the Director of Undergraduate Studies and an academic advisor in DAAS, Professor Megan Sweeney oversees undergraduate curricular matters and is available to address students’ questions and concerns about DAAS courses and about the DAAS major and minor. Professor Sweeney can offer suggestions for course selection, career planning, honing writing and research skills, improving course performance, and navigating the university's student support offices. She is also eager to listen to students' ideas for developing new courses and undergraduate initiatives in DAAS.

Scott Ellsworth | Academic Advisor
As an academic advisor in DAAS, Professor Scott Ellsworth is available to mentor students and offer general academic support. He can answer students' questions about the DAAS major and minor and offer suggestions for course selection. Professor Ellsworth is also available to offer suggestions for career planning, honing writing and research skills, improving course performance, navigating the university's student support offices, finding internships, writing resumes, and securing letters of reference.

Matthew Washington | Student Services Coordinator
As the Student Services Coordinator in DAAS, Mr. Matthew Washington enrolls students in the DAAS major/minor and maintains the forms and database for DAAS majors and minors. Mr. Washington is available to offer suggestions for course selection based on major requirements and student interests, and he can direct students to other members of the DAAS faculty or staff for additional support as necessary.
