Robert McCarthy

Recenty, Dr. Robert McCarthy from Benedictine University visited the UMMZ Mammal Division.  Dr. McCarthy is a paleoanthropologist whose research focuses on the "ontogeny, structure, and evolution of the primate and hominin skull".  The premise of Dr. McCarthy's visit was to study the relationship between the brain, hyoid bulla, face, and basicranium in howler monkeys (genus Alouatta).  The Mammal Division Alouattacollection contains over 40 specimens, mostly from wild populations.  Dr. McCarthy was able to create 3D computer models of these specimens using a MicroScribe 3-D Digitizer.
