I use a branch of statistics called Discrete Choice Modeling to model the choices people make about where to live, who to date, and what courses to take and majors to pursue in college. I use other types of computational models (hidden Markov models, agent-based models, microsimulation) to understand the implications of these choices for social dynamics and the structure of social environments such as dating markets or college curriculums.
