Our next alum highlight is on Dr. Kyra Pazan, who defended her dissertation last year. She accepted a position as assistant professor of anthropology at California State University, Stanislaus, and has been teaching there since August 2022. This past spring, she ran a pilot season at Likonong Shelter, a Middle Stone Age site in the Lesotho highlands. Dr. Pazan and a small team identified and sampled a sequence of more than 30 layers for paleoenvironmental reconstruction and OSL dating. They also conducted test excavations--with exciting results. She plans to return next spring to target the bottom of that sequence.
