The University Record reports that UMMAA curator Rob Beck’s work to preserve African American urban histories in Detroit is one of several LSA projects supported by the Research, Catalyst and Innovation Block Grants Program of the Office of the Vice President for Research. Dr. Beck’s project is an archaeological survey of a Detroit park that was once the site of Camp Ward (home of Michigan’s first Black infantry) and Black Bottom (a predominately African American community).
