I received my PhD in Physiology in 2003 and taught college-level anatomy and physiology until May 2019. My work has been published in Brevity Blog, Flights, HuffPost, Short Fiction Break, Tribe Magazine, and Literary Mama, where I serve as Senior Editor. I'm also co-author of Historic Photos of University of Michigan. I currently teaching writing classes through Word's Worth Writing Center in Dayton, Ohio, and work as a freelance editor and writing tutor. I was a peer writing tutor back in the 1990s when it was still called the English Composition Board. I am now a political journalist, having clocked more than 17 eventful years as CNN's Director of Political Research. In that role, I mostly covered campaigns and elections, with a special emphasis on preparing for presidential debates and Election Nights. Now, I'm back in Ann Arbor as the Howard R. Marsh Visiting Professor of Journalism in the Department of Communication and Media. I teach classes on the role of the news media in campaigns and elections. My experience at Sweetland/ECB has been extremely helpful in working with students to make the most impact with their writing. Outside of the classroom, I'm also the host of a journalism-themed radio talk show on WCBN-FM called The J Word. 7/19

I received my PhD in experimental psychology for UC San Diego in 2003. I am currently a faculty member in the Clinical Psychology Program at Michigan State University, where I conduct research on the development, evaluation, and implementation of community-viable interventions for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. I am a co-author of an evidence-based parent-mediated intervention curriculum for young children with ASD. 7/19

Dr. LaMond is a nutrition and prevention expert; who is a successful medical entrepreneur. Dave developed and operates numerous successful medical practices, along with a consulting company which helps physicians and medical practitioners operate successful independent practices. Drawing from his foundation and board certification in Family Medicine, he developed the innovative medical principles behind the Blue Sky MD concept of total patient care. Blue Sky MD has appeared on the INC 5000 list three times; as one of the 5000 fastest growing privately held companies in the US. I completed an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology at Wayne State University in 2000. I spent the last 20+ years in the training and development field, serving clients in the automotive, retail and beverage industries. Since 2008, I have worked as a Development Leader at Deloitte. My team and I partner with internal clients to create and execute talent development strategy in alignment with their business goals. I'm a principal with Graphicmachine, a marketing and business growth consultancy that specializes in helping architecture, engineering, and construction firms connect with the right clients. Graphicmachine is based in Kansas City, Missouri, but works with clients nationwide. I graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 2000 and practiced criminal defense and commercial litigation in New York City before changing industries and relocating to Kansas City in 2010. I currently serve on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for ArtsKC (the regional arts council) and as a member of the Speakers Bureau for RAINN, the country's largest ani-sexual assault organization. 7/19

I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures at Michigan State University where I focus on the intersections between cultural rhetoric (specifically American Indian Studies) and multimodal composing practices. I earned a PhD in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University. My first academic position was at Washington State University where I directed an undergraduate program in Digital Technology and Culture and served as Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of English. In 2017, I returned to Michigan where, amongst other things, I enjoy spending my summers in my homeland, the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. 7/19

After graduation I worked as an editor for a marketing research firm, and then joined the Peace Corps, where I taught computer skills and literacy, before starting my own non-profit in the same country (St. Vincent) doing the same work. After that, it was on to business school at Duke, where I got my MBA. Ever since then, I've been working at Google, where I lead customer services operations for North America and serve as the site lead for our Ann Arbor office. 7/19

After graduating from Ross I worked in the consulting mines and got my MBA from UCLA. After getting my MBA I worked in marketing for Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas and now work for Hilton. I am immensely grateful for being a Sweetland (then "English Composition Board") Peer Tutor, as it strengthened my writing skills and gave me a lot of confidence. Lived in Chicago, Detroit, London, and D.C. working for a media agency, specializing in creating human experiences for brand engagement. Love to travel and fortunately work on global accounts that take me across the world. Married this handsome man and had these adorable twin gentlemen, who are now 18 months-old. Recently moved to Saudi Arabia, for my husband’s career. The company I work for has a local office so am the rare working woman in Riyadh! From 1998-2002, I worked with U.S. State Department-sponsored democracy programs in Croatia, Macedonia, Albania, Serbia and Montenegro. Upon returning to the U.S., I served as Executive Director for the Center for Civic Responsibility and in 2005 founded Grassroots Initiative, the nation’s first not-for-profit election consulting firm. In 2010, I joined New York City government where I now serve as Director for Innovation. In my current role, I’ve led a range of technology efforts including the launch of the .nyc top-level domain and announcement of LinkNYC, a private-public partnership to build the largest and fastest municipal Wi-Fi network in the world. 10/16

Since 2006, I have practiced law at Perkins Coie LLP, based in the Chicago office. I am the firmwide Co-Chair of the Hotels & Leisure Industry Group, specializing in transactions involving hotels. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2002, I attended law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law, where I specialized in litigation and became a student assistant for the legal writing program. After that, I worked in corporate litigation at two different law firms, Seyfarth Shaw in Chicago and DLA Piper in New York, before shifting into human rights law. Currently, I work as a Senior Legal Consultant for a defense team at the Khmer Rouge tribunal, a hybrid criminal tribunal investigating and prosecuting individuals accused of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes committed in Cambodia between 1975 and 1979. I also work as a Senior Legal Counsel for a start-up nonprofit, Project Expedite Justice, which seeks justice for survivors of international and transnational crimes in East Africa and Southeast Asia. I am currently based in Cambodia and Singapore. 7/19

I live in Ann Arbor and I work as a Clinical Neuropsychologist in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Michigan Health System. I am an Assistant Professor of the UM Medical School. My job involves providing psychotherapy, teaching, conducting research, and also administering and interpreting neuropsychological assessments. After graduating from Michigan I went to work for the University's Institute of Continuing Legal Education as an assistant editor for about a year and a half. In the summer of 2008 I relocated to Madison, Wisconsin to attend law school at the University of Wisconsin. Although I was reluctant to enter Badger territory, I found out quickly that Madison is a wonderful city, and generally speaking, my continued dedication to being a die-hard Wolverine was mostly tolerated. While in law school I met my now husband and after graduating in December of 2010 I decided to make Madison my permanent residence. I am now a senior attorney at the domestic litigation firm of Cordell and Cordell where I practice family law and am also working to build a collaborative divorce practice. 10/16

After graduating in 2006 I went on to law school at Washington University in St. Louis. I moved to Chicago in 2009 and spent my first few years as an attorney in fairly traditional legal practices. In 2013, I moved away from the law firm world and into the growing industry of managed legal services. Two years ago, I had the opportunity to move to London and open my firm's office there. I recently returned to Chicago, but I still oversee all London operations. 7/19

About a year and a half ago, I took a job as a program officer on the K-12 team at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. 7/19

I currently live in Washington, DC and serve as a Policy Advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance where I work on criminal justice policies related to conditions of incarceration and support DOJ's implementation of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). In this role, I guide and oversee implementation of the national Standards to prevent, detect, and respond to sexual abuse and sexual harassment in confinement facilities across the nation. Prior to joining DOJ, I was a Research Associate at ICF International in Fairfax, VA where I conducted social science research and program evaluations in the areas of victimization, prisoner-reentry, juvenile justice, and education for at-risk youth. 10/16

I am currently a PhD candidate in the English Department at the University of Minnesota. I study Victorian literature and science, and my dissertation examines attempts by Victorian men of science and letters alike to overcome the limitations of human perception in the pursuit of truth. I moved to New York City the summer after graduation, and began classes at Fordham University's School of Law. After graduating in 2014, and obtaining my legal license in 2015, I began my first legal job at a mid-size corporate firm in Times Square practicing Corporate Structuring and Securities Law. I then went to clerk for the Hon. Arthur F. Engoron at Manhattan's Supreme Civil Court. After almost three wonderful years with Justice Engoron, I joined the NYC-based law firm Warshaw Burstein, LLP as an Associate. In the meantime, I am also developing my repertoire as a real estate broker, assisting my friends and clients in purchasing their first-time homes and/or investment properties. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of AREAA (Asian Real Estate Association of America), a real estate organization that connects Manhattan's top attorneys, brokers, developers, and financiers. 7/19

I spent three years in that position before taking an opportunity within the company in human resources on the training and development team, where I am now the administrator. Since graduation, I became a high school English teacher in Farmington, MI, and then in Troy, MI, where I have been working with students to prepare them for college-level reading/analyzing, writing (all different forms), and communication. Then I enrolled in medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV, followed by in internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township, MI. I took a year after college to travel--Shanghai, New York, and Pittsburgh, among other places. After that year off, I enrolled at Yale Law School, and just graduated from YLS this spring. Although I originally went on to graduate work in Classics at UCLA, my experience with Sweetland had made a life-changing impact. Since graduating from the University of Michigan, I’ve worked at architecture firms in Michigan and the Netherlands. I’m invested in grass-roots organization, material circularity, and design organized around the principles of commoning—values I’ve engaged through work constructing off-grid, natural buildings in the US and UK, and participating in activism with Extinction Rebellion. I’m currently a Master of Architecture candidate at Princeton University, where as an Assistant Instructor for a graduate studio, I apply concepts learned at the writing center on a daily basis. Since graduation, I have continued living and working in Ann Arbor! I'm currently involved in research projects examining the relationship between kids' and adolescents' genes, behavior, and brain structures and how these factors relate to mental health issues. I'm also in the process of applying to graduate school to continue similar lines of research. And I'm still actively missing the Sweetland community, and hope everyone is doing great things! 10/16

After graduation, I moved to Madison, Wisconsin to work for Epic Systems. Epic is one of the largest providers of Healthcare Software in the world. Here at Epic, I work as a Usability Coordinator which allows me to develop, run and analyze studies with physicians and nurses to improve their efficiency and overall satisfaction when using our product. I always speak fondly of my time at Sweetland, and regularly utilize the skills I developed there to create and improve professional content. 10/16

I live and work in Columbus, Ohio at Alliance Data, a credit card marketing and loyalty company. My role lies within the Marketing Product and Capabilties department on the Mobile Loyalty app delivery team. I help to support the development and delivery of our mobile app products, working with developers and client partners alike to create apps that truly provide the best user experience for our cardholders. Even though I live in enemy territory, I love the people I work with and the ever growing, laid back vibe of the city of Columbus! 10/16

I currently live in Ann Arbor and work for LSA's Instructional Support Services advising the BlueCorps program. Day to Day my eight student workers and I help students, faculty, and staff with their technological needs. This ranges from assistance with a first time computer backup to workshops on the Adobe Suite. Every day presents a different set of challenges, which is why I love it so much. 12/16

I returned to U-M a month after graduation to earn my Master's in Educational Studies through the Secondary MAC program. From there, I taught high school English at a Michigan charter school for a year before relocating to Houston, TX. I continued working as an online English teacher at the same Michigan charter school for two years while also supporting hundreds of Houston students as a private tutor. Now, I work as a manager for a Houston-based tutoring company, where I oversee a team of peer and pro tutors while assisting with the company’s publications and continuing to do one-on-one tutoring. 8/19

After graduating from U-M, I continued with my education in Applied Linguistics (M.A. Applied Linguistics ‘17) and Education, specifically Curriculum and Instruction (M.S.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction ‘19). Currently, I am working as the Writing Specialist for the Chicago School of Professional Psychology’s Online Campus Writing Center, supporting students in writing their Master’s theses and Doctoral dissertations. I also provide editorial services as a contract editor for academic journals, book publishers, and collegiate assignments. In my work in higher education, I have been developing a program that provides embedded instructional/classroom support and teaching methods for faculty who work with linguistic minority students. The program will help instructors to support linguistic minority academic achievement through validation of linguistic identities and linguistically inclusive pedagogy that accounts for cross-linguistic, cross-cultural, and intercultural rhetoric differences. I have been presenting this work at conferences across the country, and am always surprised by how many people share a Michigan and Sweetland alumni background! 7/19

Currently, I am the Digital Content Author at Northern Trust Corporation in Chicago, serving as a member of the UX team. My central duties involve adapting content on financial topics for the internet and consulting with the different business units to increase the company's website performance. After my graduation from Michigan, I spent 1.5 years working in the legal and political communications industries in Washington, DC. From there, I went on to obtain a M.S. in Media Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Northwestern University, where I studied both in Chicago and San Francisco. 7/19

I am living in Cleveland, OH, completing my fourth year of medical school at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine. I am also pursuing a Master's Degree in Bioethics. This Fall, I plan on applying to residency programs in Pediatrics. In my spare time, I enjoy good books and bad coffee, campy sci-fi movies and being a distraction to my studious medical school friends. It's hard bleeding Maize and Blue in Buckeye territory, but I'm fighting the good fight. 7/19

Since graduation in April 2016, I have completed both an MA in Women’s and Gender Studies at Eastern Michigan University, and the SecMAC (Masters of Arts and Certification) program at the University of Michigan School of Education. Now, I am employed as a middle school Educator and an Academic and Behavior Support Specialist and have enjoyed starting my professional career in the Ann Arbor area. I love working with students to develop their voices and empowering them to change the world. Sweetland was an early part of my career as an Educator and I love that I get to live my feminist and social justice values in both my professional career, and my personal life. 7/19

After graduating, I moved to a rural community in Vietnam to teach English and learn Vietnamese as a Princeton in Asia fellow. Thereafter, I worked as a fellow for the ACLU of Michigan, and then maneuvered into a career in journalism. I worked as an intern at Michigan Radio's daily news program, Stateside and an alternative magazine in Detroit before moving to California. I'm now again in a rural community - this time reporting at The Union in Grass Valley. 7/19

I'm a copywriter at Redhead Design Studio, a marketing, branding and design agency in Lansing, Michigan. I write copy for anything from publications to social media posts to billboards. If I’m not writing, I’m editing other peoples’s writing (prompting fond flashbacks of my time at the Peer Writing Center). Previously, I worked at a public relations agency in Chicago that serves with business-to-business tech startups for two years before finding my way back to Michigan. 7/19

After earning my undergraduate degree from UM, I worked at Michigan Medicine as a Medical Scribe and in various research labs at UM. Since then, I have returned to school at UM to earn my Masters of Public Health in Epidemiology while also working as a Graduate Student Instructor in Biology.
