Across the country there has been a growing number of well-coordinated attacks against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in higher education. As of March 2024, 80 anti-DEI bills have been introduced in 24 states. Eight have become law, 9 have final legislative approval, while 30 have been tabled, failed to pass, or vetoed. Critics are announcing that this is the beginning of the end for DEI in America’s institutions. In this panel, participants will discuss the future of DEI. They will address the successes of DEI as well as the ongoing challenges. Panelists will also answer questions such as “What’s next for DEI?”, “What’s working and what’s not working?”, and “Where do we go from here?”.
