Program Requirements

We believe that every MCSP student is committed to building a vibrant multicultural community, making a difference in the world through high quality community service and civic engagement, engaging in intergroup dialogue and considering different perspectives, broadening their awareness and understanding of social identities, and thinking critically about social justice.

In addition to MCSP Course Requirements, all MCSP students must live in MCSP-designated housing in West Quad and participate actively each semester in the following MCSP Community and Program Activities:

  • Two MCSP Programming Board (PBU) activities;
  • Two community service activities sponsored by the Peer Advisors for Community Service (PACS) or other MCSP-affiliated service groups;
  • Two cultural programs or dialogues sponsored by the Intergroup Relations Council (IRC);
  • Meet at least twice each semester with your Peer Mentor and peer mentor group.

Behavioral expectations:

  • Enroll in all required classes and actively participate in MCSP programming (see below).
  • Contribute to the vibrant intellectual environment in MCSP with a spirit of curiosity, openness, and critical thinking.
  • Provide high quality, respectful, and equitable service to the local community, centering the perspectives and needs of those impacted by injustice.
  • Participate with honesty, openness, and respect in dialogues, group reflections, classroom discussions, and everyday interactions with all members of the MCSP community.
  • Address problems or conflicts that arise in the community directly and respectfully whenever possible. When that’s not possible, seek help from a peer mentor, resident advisor (RA), or professional staff. A community conversation or other facilitated group process may be held.
  • Act with respect, sensitivity, and appreciation for every member of the UM and local community, including all MCSP students, staff, and faculty, Housing staff, and people you meet throughout campus and beyond, whether in person or online.
