As you may know, Professor Reggie Jackson decided to step down this summer from the directorship of the Center for Japanese Studies in order to return to his research. He took on the director role in the summer of 2020, leading the Center through the height of the pandemic in addition to this past year’s extensive CJS 75th Anniversary programming. We thank him for his tireless service to CJS these past years and his work last year on the II external review!

I am also happy to announce that Professor Denise Saint Arnault has agreed to serve as interim director for this year. Professor Saint Arnault is faculty in the Department of Health Behavior and Biological Sciences at the School of Nursing. She has served in numerous leadership positions over her career, including as a valued member of the CJS Executive Committee this past year. Please join me in welcoming her!

Best,

Mary Gallagher
