The gift of time that is a fully-funded MFA degree is, for many of our graduates, matched—and even eclipsed—by the gift of true community. More often than not, we find lifeong friends, colleagues, and readers here. In recognition of this vital phenomenon and in an effort to help foster its continuation beyond the conferral of the degree itself (and the geographical scattering that tends to follow), the Helen Zell Writers' Program has recently committed to building and faciliating ZAN, the Zell Alumni Network.
Please direct any questions or suggestions regarding the Zell Alumni Network to our Alum Coordinators:
- Rachel Farrell (MFA '13), who can be reached at email@example.com
- Lauren Prastien (MFA '15), who can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
Alumni Facebook Group
Launched in August 2016, the HZWP Alumni Facebook Group is a closed group moderated by our alum coordinators. The group, linked below, is intended to serve as a means for our graduates to connect (and reconnect) with one another both for networking purposes and for general support. Members are encouraged to share current projects and bylines, as well as any thoughts and resources related to writing, publishing, jobs and other opportunities—not to mention the myriad highs, lows, and in-betweens of the overall post-MFA experience.
Each semester the Helen Zell Writers' Program circulates an email newsletter with program news and updates, an "Alumni Spotlight" checking in with one of our own, and comprehensive lists of recent publications, accolades, and other work (complete with links, when possible). Please see below for archived copies of the Alumni Newsletter, beginning in Fall 2016.
While our alum coordinators do their best, it is enormously helpful when alumni reach out directly to get involved and let us know about their various accomplishments; please feel free to get in touch any time, either at their individual email addresses (listed above), or with the MFA Office at email@example.com.
