Spring 2016 Family Day

The 2016 Spring Family Day was full of activities for kids of all ages. Our youngest Kelsey Museum visitors created mosaics with beans, magnets, or paper tesserae. They painted frescoes based off of fragments in the Kelsey Museum or out of their own imagination. Jewelry-making, inspired by some of the jewelry on display in the special exhibition Leisure and Luxury in the Age of Nero: The Villas of Oplontis Near Pompeii was a big hit. When everyone needed a break from activities, they were welcome to take an engaging tour of the special exhibition, or grab a snack at the Roman Foods table. Our display of volcanic rocks (including a quick scientific test involving a piece of pumice and a bucket of water) was accompanied by a great animated video of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

Family Day is a biannual event at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. All activities are free and open to all ages (although we recommend for ages 4 to 12). Like us on Facebook to see upcoming events and to mark your calendar for the next Family Day event in Fall 2016. We hope to see you there!
