This year's winners of the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, which honor outstanding books that address racism and diversity, are Kevin Young, N. Scott Momaday, Shane McCrae, and HZWP alumna and National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward.

Ward won the fiction award for "Sing, Unburied, Sing," her acclaimed novel that tells the story of a 13-year-old Mississippi boy who goes on a road trip with his mother and sister to reunite with his father, who is scheduled to be released from prison.

Current HZWP Professors Peter Ho Davies (Fiction) and A. Van Jordan (Poetry) are also recipients of past Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards.
