Undergraduates

Welcome to the Center for World Performance Studies!

The Center for World Performance Studies (CWPS) offers a uniquely interdisciplinary space for students at University of Michigan to explore the knowledge that performance reveals about the world, ranging from traditional performing arts such as music, theatre and dance to performance art and multimedia; ritual, religious and political acts; and performance in every day life and work. CWPS offers artists, performers, scholars, and the community an opportunity to participate in dialogue and intellectual interactions and attend public performances. Opportunities for Undergraduate Students include:

Our Student Advisory Board actively participates in co-sponsoring and curating events on campus, and helps to promote opportunities for undergraduates to engage in the field of Performance Studies. Students meet monthly at the Center.

Our rolling grant funding provides individual students and student organizations at U-M the opportunity to pursue projects such as events, conferences, collaborations, and scholar/artist residencies, particularly those that cultivate dialogue about performance practices, performance theory, and relevant topics in the field of Performance Studies, especially through the global perspective. Our Student Advisory Board reviews applications twice per semester.

Our programming and events bring in leading artists, faculty and scholars in the field of World Performance Studies. Through our robust programming, we provide many opportunities for student and faculty interaction with visitors including class visits, seminars, roundtables, public lectures, demonstrations and performances.  All are welcomed and encouraged to attend these events—it’s a great way to get involved, network and learn something new! Please visit our events page for a current list of activities.
