It is an honor to serve as the new Director of the Center for World Performance Studies. I would like to thank Professor Ed Sarath for his time and energy as interim director.  As you will see in the slideshow featured below, last year was full of engaging concerts, lectures and class visits thanks to Professor Sarath, the CWPS Steering Committee and staff. This summer, we have an amazing contingent of faculty and graduate students doing research around the world and we look forward to showcasing some of their work in the coming academic year.  Also coming this fall, CWPS will be sponsoring a weeklong residency by the National Theater of Ghana in an adaptation of a Tennessee Williams play entitled Ten Blocks on the Camino Real. The show is directed by David Kaplan the curator of the Provincetown Tennessee Williams Festival. This production is unique in that Williams’ play has been reconceived in a cross-cultural aesthetic, with Ghanaian music and dance, and with the characters re-envisioned as archetypes of West African culture. There are plans underway for much more and we look forward to seeing you at our events throughout the year.
