CWPS Faculty Fellowships 2018-2019

The Center for World Performance Studies (CWPS) was established to serve the needs of faculty and a student body with an interest in the discipline of Performance Studies, expressly through a global lens. CWPS works to offer a multidisciplinary space for artists, performers, scholars, and the community for intellectual interactions and public performances.

Faculty Fellowships

Grant awards ranging from $5,000-$7,500 are available to individual faculty members to pursue research projects by traveling to various sites, domestically and internationally. We encourage inventive ideas, especially those that involve thematic support for World Performance Studies, including ethnography and performance as research. Recipients of the Faculty Fellowship funding awards should meet the following expectations during the 2018-2019 academic year:

  • Present their research as part of the CWPS Faculty Lecture series;

  • Provide a synopsis of research for CWPS website;

  • Attend CWPS networking events when possible, including CWPS Fellowship Luncheon, and guest artist receptions and performances;

  • Become a CWPS “Faculty Affiliate.”

Proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, and recipients will be notified by Friday, April 6. Awards are to be used during the summer of 2018.

Proposals should include: (1) Center for World Performance Studies Faculty Fellowship Online Application Form; (2) an explanatory statement no longer than 1,000 words; (3) a current CV for each principal organizer/participant no longer than 3 pages; and (4) a budget detailing anticipated costs and all sources of support (pending and confirmed).

Successful proposals should demonstrate long-term scholarly impact, enhance the learning outcomes and experiences of U-M students, extend international collaborations, and leverage other sources of support. Funds may be requested for pilot projects or to supplement existing projects, however, priority will be given to applicants who have not previously received CWPS summer research funds.

If funds are awarded but cannot be used because of unforeseen circumstances, awards must be returned in full to CWPS immediately. Recipients may re-apply for funding during the next funding cycle.
