Galleries

Art, music, and atmosphere-the University of Michigan Museum of Art invites you to spend the evening with us at this free community event. Explore the permanent collection galleries and enjoy special exhibitions, live music, curators' conversations, tours, light refreshments and more!

The Mark Stone Trio, sponsored by the Center for World Performance Studies, will play in the Apse. While the trio’s format is the traditional Carnatic arrangement of a soloist with percussion and violin accompaniment, the music itself draws on Mark's wide-ranging compositional influences, from American jazz to African mbira/marimba music. In the group Mark plays the gyil (a xylophone from Ghana) and many types of mbiras including the new American made array mbira, the traditional Ugandan endongo, the ancient South African mbira nyunga nyunga, as well as the modern kalimba and karimba.

UMMA After Hours is sponsored by UMMA. This concert is co-sponsored by CWPS.
