Graduates

Welcome to the Center for World Performance Studies!

The Center for World Performance Studies (CWPS) offers a uniquely interdisciplinary space for graduate students to explore the knowledge that performance reveals about the world, ranging from traditional performing arts such as music, theatre and dance to performance art and multimedia; ritual, religious and political acts; and performance in every day life and work. CWPS offers artists, performers, scholars, and the community an opportunity for intellectual interactions and public performances. Opportunities for Graduate Students include:

Our rolling grant funding provides graduate students at U-M the opportunity to pursue projects such as events, conferences, collaborations, and scholar/artist residencies. CWPS is delighted to support any event or project that showcases performance practices from around the globe, and projects that broaden the thematic focus of emerging World Performance Studies.

Our Graduate Certificate in World Performance Studies is a curricular opportunity for any student who is currently enrolled in a graduate program at the University of Michigan who is interested in World Performance Studies. The certificate requires 9 credit hours of coursework over the span of twelve months and provides $3,500 per student for a summer internship, research or practicum experience.

Our programming and initiatives bring in leading artists, faculty and scholars in the field of World Performance Studies. Through our robust programming, we provide many opportunities for student and faculty interaction with visitors including class visits, seminars, roundtables, public lectures, demonstrations and performances.  All are welcomed and encouraged to attend these events—it’s a great way to get involved, network and learn something new! Please visit our events page for a current list of activities.
