What years did you participate in UROP?

2000-2002

What made you choose UROP?

I was interested in learning more about research and getting hands on experience. I had a great experience in a Kiniesology lab working with kids, and learning about their different models and statistical methods.

What do you think you have learned from your UROP experience?

Mostly, I learned to try something new and that all experiences are learning experiences.  While I did not end up in the field of Kinesiology, I learned a lot about research methods, honed my critical thinking skills, and got to work with a great team and awesome research participants.

What is the extent to which you have kept in contact with your Research Mentor?

I have not kept up with my research mentor, but do keep in touch with my honors thesis mentor and Honors college counselor.

How did your UROP experience shape or inform the next steps you took in your academic and professional journey?

I continued to work in a research lab throughout my experience at U of M. I was able to work in a variety of settings that were more specific to my major and career goals in Psychology.

What advice would you give to a current UROP student?

Try something new, find something that is aligned with your values, but know that even if it isnt in a specific field of study that you will still be learning applicable and generalizable skills. Have fun!

What are some recent publications or accomplishments that you are proud of?

I have had the pleasure of working with amazing teams over the years at University of Chicago and in my private practice. My Co-Founder and I have built a fantastic team, and it has been very fulfilling to combine clinical and research work.  In terms of research, I primarily present and publish in the area of treatment dissemination research.  I did work about 5 years ago in the area of telemedicine. As a family based treatment therapist in the field of eating disorders, this research has become more relevant/applicable due to challenges we are facing in providing therapy during the Covid-19 crisis.

Is there any other advice you would like to impart to current or future UROP students?
