What years did you participate in UROP?

2016-2017

What UROP Program(s) were you a part of?

Traditional UROP (Engineering Cohort)

What made you choose UROP?

I wanted an opportunity to connect with like minded peers and learn about the opportunities present for doing research at Michigan.

What do you think you have learned from your UROP experience?

How to be adaptable and learn new skills. Also gave me a passion for research and critical thinking.

What is the extent to which you have kept in contact with your Research Mentor?

I contact and update my research mentor on my progress about once a year. He's a super amazing guy who's passion is infectious!

How did your UROP experience shape or inform the next steps you took in your academic and professional journey?

I came into Michigan dead set on wanting to become a doctor, but very quickly learned that I loved research even more. It opened my eyes to the opportunity to be an MD/PhD and do both!

Where are you in your professional journey?

I'm currently a first year MD/PhD student here at the Michigan Medical School (Go Blue)

What advice would you give to a current UROP student?

Don't be afraid to sign up for a project that uses skills you don't currently have. I had no coding experience and joined a computational lab! This is a learning experience so don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. No PI expects you to come in and be able to take over a project - otherwise you would be a PI yourself!

What are some recent publications or accomplishments that you are proud of?

Admission into Michigan Medical School
