The goal of our project is to summarize what is known about the historical distribution of Texas freshwater mussels by visiting museums around the United States. At each museum, our goal is to validate Texas holdings by correcting misidentifications, updating taxonomies to reflect current usage, validating locality information, and photographing noteworthy specimens. Validated records are then collated into our Texas Freshwater Mussel Database, which we then use along with current distribution information to develop conservation status assessment maps for rare and common mussel species.
