The UMMZ Insect Division is teaming up with the Isaacs lab at MSU to database and digitize wild bee specimens in the UMMZ insect collection. Wild bees are an essential part of our ecosystem and provide extremely valuable crop pollination services, yet we know relatively little about the bees here in Michigan. While the UMMZ houses bee specimens from all over the country, this project will focus on digitizing specimens collected in our home state. The project is part of a larger USDA-NIFA grant focused on assessing pollinator health in Michigan.  Photos courtesy of Sam Droege, USGS.
