The Detroit chapter of the American Society for Materials (ASM) is hosting an online presentation on the Archaeometallurgy of the Ancient Copper Working Cultures in the Great Lakes on Monday, February 7, 2022, from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Register by Friday, February 4.

The presenter, Ryan Peterson from Indiana University, will discuss the history of metal use in the Great Lakes region over the past 10,000 years as well as his own research on native copper production and metalworking techniques in the Northern Lake Superior Basin. Peterson's 2021 fieldwork uncovered several prehistoric copper-working sites on Isle Royale. Included in the talk is a live demonstration of prehistoric copper-working techniques.
