The Museum of Anthropological Archaeology is moving!

Current and former UMMAA students, curators, staff, and friends will join together to celebrate UMMAA's history and say goodbye to our research and administrative space in the Ruthven Museums Building. Ruthven was completed in 1928 and has served as the home of the Museum (formerly the Museum of Anthropology) for nine decades. 

On Friday, May 11, gather with your colleagues, past peers, and cohorts at 5pm the Brown Jug (1204 S. University Ave.) for fellowship and refreshments.  Afterwards, please enjoy dinner at the restaurant of your choice.

Events for Saturday, May 12 are scheduled as follows:

At 9:30 am sharp, shuttle service departs from The Graduate Hotel (615 E. Huron) to the newly renovated Research Museums Center (3600 Varsity Drive, or meet at RMC at 10 am if you prefer to drive) for coffee, bagels and a personalized tour of the new state of the art UMMAA laboratory and collections research facilities. Click here to access driving directions. The 2nd shuttle pickup from the Executive Learning and Conference Center has been cancelled. 

At 12:00 noon, the shuttle returns you to Central Campus to enjoy lunch at the restaurant of your choice.

Please re-group at The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology (434 S. State St.) at 1:30 pm for a private tour of the exhibit “Excavating Archaeology @ U-M: 1817 – 2017”.

Enjoy a short break before reconvening at the Ruthven Museums Building (1109 Geddes Avenue) at 5:30 pm for the evening’s festivities. UMMAA is hosting a reception from 5:30-6:30 pm with speakers and an historic slideshow in the Ruthven Rotunda. Tours of the ranges follow from 6:30-7:00 pm, and at 7 pm we move to the second floor where dinner will be served.

We hope you—our colleagues, alumni, and friends—will join us in celebrating UMMAA's history in Ruthven and explore the new spaces where future UMMAA research will take place.
