On Friday, October 18, East Quad hosts the Community of Food, Society & Justice Conference. The day-long conference, which is free and open to students, faculty, staff, and the public, includes four panels that will address issues of food justice, an unsustainable agricultural system, food sovereignty, and more. Tracie McMillan, author of The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee’s, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table, will give the keynote address. Environmental artist Lauren Bon, the Penny Stamps Distinguished Speaker, will open the conference on Thursday night at the Michigan Theater. Bon is a Los Angeles artist whose work explores land art projects in order to galvanize social and political transformation.
