UMMAA curator Henry Wright and doctoral student Brendan Nash, along with independent researcher Thomas Talbot, are making headlines with their discovery of a Clovis site in St. Joseph County in southwest Michigan. At 13,000 years old, it is the earliest archaeological site in the state, the first Clovis site in the state, and one that changes our current understanding of Paleoindian inhabitants of the Great Lakes region. Talbot, who had found several Clovis points in plowed fields at the Belson site in previous years, contacted Nash and Wright, who began an excavation.
