Kristin Cimmerer at Spitzkloof B Rockshelter in South Africa, holding a baboon skull from a cache of skeletons the crew found just outside of the rockshelter valley. 2017.

Congratulations are due to Kristin Cimmerer, an undergraduate in archaeology at the University of Michigan and president of the Archaeology Club, who has won a Virginia Voss Memorial Award for her senior honors thesis.

The award is given for excellence in writing by senior women in the U-M LSA Honors Program—it was established in memory of the late Ms. Voss, an honors graduate in the 1950s.

Cimmerer ranked “at the top of a list of very accomplished students writing very strong theses,” according to the associate director of the LSA Honors Program. Cimmerer works in South Africa; her thesis is titled “Short-Term Technological Change at Melikane Rockshelter, Lesotho.”
