UMBS Sexual Harassment Policy and Materials

UMBS Community:

The University of Michigan Biological Station is fully committed to preventing sexual harassment and assault, and discrimination. As such, we have a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual harassment, all forms of assault, and discrimination in any form.  We are fully committed to makingeveryone feel safe and comfortable in their Biological Station living space, in our classrooms, in the lab, and in the field.  We will take ANY complaint seriously, and will follow up on any concerns of our students, staff, researchers, teaching assistants, faculty, and guests in residence.  We will do so in confidence, and with respect and support.  If you have a concern, please feel free to convey it to ANY staff member, resident assistant, faculty member, mentor, or administrator (including the Director or Associate Director) with whom you feel comfortable discussing sensitive issues.  The Director, Associate Director, and Resident Staff/Advisors are mandatory reporters, who are required by law to share anything they learn about sexual harassment or assault with U-M officials, regardless of whether a victim came forward to discuss the issue confidentially.

Field stations are particularly obligated to take preventative measures and to handle complaints and concerns regarding sexual harassment, assault and discrimination, as discussed by Kathryn Clancy and colleagues (PLOS ONE, 2014). If you experience incidents of harassment, assault, or discrimination, please know that your concerns will be handled in accordance with the University of Michigan policies as described in full at Procedures for filing complaints are described at this link as well.

We ask all members of our living & learning community at the UM Biological Station to review the UMBS Community Living Standards.
