For the past five years, scientists from Central and South America and the Caribbean have come to the University of Michigan Biological Station for a week-long workshop on "belowground carbon accounting." The value of these meetings is reflected in a paper, co-authored by workshop organizer and UMBS Assistant Research Scientist Lucas Nave, on networking international soil data.

The paper, which appears in Global Change Biology, complements a related study about the potentially mitigating effects of soil carbon. Together they show the importance of international soil conservation efforts.
