Sarah Saunders is a familiar face at the Biological Station.  As a University of Minnesota Ph.D. student and integral member of the Great Lakes Piping Plover recovery project, she has spent the past 3 summers monitoring and handling plover adults, fledglings and eggs at the UMBS base and across the northern Great Lakes.

Apparently she's pretty good with a camera, too.  Her submission to USA Today's "American Sunscapes" series -- a classic Douglas Lake sunset, taken from canoe -- ran on the publication's "On Deadline" site this week.  Take a peek. While you're at it, imagine you're floating on the calm surface, a gentle breeze in your face, loons wailing in the distance.  It's almost like you're there.
