Theodore Schurr was a student at the Biological Station in 1981.  He is now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania.  In research recently published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, Schurr asserts that the earliest Native Americans may have originated in Southern Siberia.  He supports this idea with mitochondrial DNA analysis of Native Americans and northeast Asians.
