Community Living Standards

The University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) is committed to providing an environment conducive to the educational, psychological, and social development of UMBS residents. We encourage respect for the rights of the individual balanced by the rights and interests of the community as a whole. We developed the Community Living Standards (CLS) to help promote such behavior and ensure an environment of civility for everyone.

All camp residents and their guests are expected to be familiar with and abide by the Community Living Standards.

All students at UMBS and the University of Michigan are required to adhere to the Statement of Student Rights and Responsibilities (“Statement”), which outlines specific behaviors that contradict the values of the entire University community. Consequently, these behaviors are prohibited.

It is important to understand that a violation of the Statement is also a violation of the CLS. Residents who choose to behave in ways that may violate the Statement and the CLS will be subject to losing their opportunity to live at UMBS.
