Any student (LSA or otherwise) who is traveling abroad for University-related purposes is required to register their travel.
All students at U-M, regardless of College affiliation, are strongly encouraged to complete these steps. However, students traveling on LSA-related business are required to complete the items listed on the Register LSA Travel page. If you are unsure if your travel falls under LSA-related business, please contact LSATravel@umich.edu
Please see this instructional PDF for step-by-step instructions
Emergency Communications: Your travel registration enables the U-M to reach you in the event of an emergency – abroad or at home. The travel registry is the University’s official means for sharing urgent health, safety, and security-related information.
UM Travel Health Insurance Coverage: The travel registry provides access to U-M approved travel abroad health insurance. This coverage also includes emergency evacuation in the event of political instability or natural disaster.
The LSA Travel office does not play any role in the actual disbursement of funds. For questions related to your funding award, disbursement, while abroad requirements, etc., please contact the department to which you applied for the funding.
Unfortunately, due to the high number of travel registrations that the LSA Travel office oversees, it is not possible for us to confirm completion with each individual student. Unless you are required to submit a safety plan, you will know that you are complete when everything on your MCompass travel registration page is marked off.
If your destination requires the submission of a safety plan, your requirements are not considered complete until you receive approval from the ITOC Committee.
The requirements are not complete until you receive approval from the ITOC Committee for your safety plan application. This review process can take up to 3 weeks so please plan accordingly.
You must complete all of the LSA International Travel policy requirements at least 10 days prior to your departure from the United States. However, your funding cannot be disbursed until these requirements are completed so if you are in need of your funding sooner, please plan accordingly. Additionally, for those who need safety plan approval, please remember that this process can take up to 3 weeks.
Yes and no. The policy does still apply to you if you answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions on this page. However, these items will all be completed via your CGIS (IPE, etc.) pre-departure process and thus, you do not need to complete any additional items.
