“I am excited to announce that the community-based program, TELLING IT, has been selected for a second time as the 2017 beneficiary. TELLING IT has proven to be a pillar of our community by empowering youth through arts-based interventions,” said Holmes, event founder.
“The program supports the healing and learning needs of underserved school-aged youth using best practices from social work and education filtered through the arts so they can lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives.”
This is proving to be another special year for this event. “It is with great pleasure that I announce three presenting sponsors for the 2017 event, Victory Automotive Group, St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, and the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office – Jerry L. Clayton, Sheriff,” said Holmes. This support coupled with the good folks who serve on the committee raising sponsorships should prove to be another very successful event benefiting TELLING IT.

TELLING IT
TELLING IT was founded in 2002 as an arts-based literacy program for school-age youth experiencing homelessness. Over time, it became clear that youth need to process the hurts in their lives first before they can practice reading and writing. TELLING IT developed and included therapeutic elements along with emotional literacy skills to support healing, learning and empowering of youth who have experienced some form of trauma so they can lead safe, healthy and fulfilling lives. Programs for school-aged youth currently run at Avalon Housing’s Pauline Apartments, Parkridge Community Center in Ypsilanti, and Ypsilanti Community Middle School. www.lsa.umich.edu/tellingit
