LSA Technology Services offers two monitoring solutions for servers and the services thereon, designed to meet the needs of IT professionals throughout the college and not often of interest to general faculty, staff, or students:
The Splunk monitoring solution is used to collect and analyze machine data created by various Linux, Mac, and Windows servers and hosted services. Insight into the health and security of servers and services is provided through a web interface which offers powerful search, analysis, and visualization capabilities. Reports and alerts can be customized for automated delivery via email.
For more information on Splunk in general, see their web site, www.splunk.com.
The Zabbix monitoring solution is an enterprise-class open source software package for monitoring networks and applications. It is designed to monitor and track the status of various network services, servers, and other network hardware. Operations can be performed via its web interface, which requires Cosign authentication. It is used to monitor various Linux, Mac, and Windows servers and services supported by the LSA IT Infrastructure team and the regional support groups.
For more information on Zabbix in general, see their web site, www.zabbix.org.
These services are available to IT professionals in LSA.
The monitoring services should only be used to monitor college servers and services.
