Windows 7 Patching Update

by Josh Tishhouse

If you receive patching for your windows computer from the LSA WSUS service, or from LSA's SCCM instance, we delayed approval for one week on two Windows 7 patches due to various reports of issues after they installed. We will approve the updates by 12PM today.

Microsoft has followed up that they are aware of the issues and plan on fixing them in a future release, but for now the updates are critical enough that you should install them anyway and remedy any issues present.

The two updates are here: KB4088875 and KB4088878.

Please note the known issues section and the workarounds, if any.

The two primary issues we expect our users to possibly see are:

  1. vNICs being replaced with a new "dummy" vNIC. Most users are only seeing this on computers that already have a virtual NIC present (such as virtual machines). Please use the workaround instructions from Microsoft.

  2. IP Address settings lost after the update is installed. This is primarily evident on users which have static IPs configured and DHCP is not available. Users will need to reconfigure their IP address after the update is installed.
