What's New for Web Editors in AEM 6.4

Transitioning to Touch-Optimized User Interface

Web Services upgraded the production environment of Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) from version 6.3 to 6.4. The updates were successful and the all clear was sent the afternoon of May 7.

AEM 6.4 ensures the College will have a more stable and secure web platform. The upgraded product will be hosted on new servers and networks and furthers the progress towards the touch-optimized UI transition.

During this process, a content migration was needed. If you would like a report including all the edits and deletions that occurred from April 8 - May 3, please submit a request to our office.

Preparation for Touch-Optimized UI and Sunsetting Classic

  • Sidekick
Once the Classic UI is retired, all the components will be available to use on all page templates.
  • Button Component
The option to “Float” has been removed.  This is due to the fact that the Touch-Optimized UI has the ability to let users utilize page layouting.
  • Captioned Image Component
This component is being retired. Instances of the captioned image component will still display and be editable. The component will be removed from the Sidekick. The replacement for this component is to using an image component with a text component.

Bug Fixes

  • LSA Tile
This component was no longer pulling in Twitter Feeds. In this update, the code has been updated to pull in Twitter Feeds.
  • CTRL + V or Cmnd + V
Works consistently work in Chrome and Safari web browsers.
  • Captioned Image Components with External Links
Previously, this component that linked to external web addresses was throwing a 404 Error. The code has been updated to allow for an external web address without adding an extra “html://“.
Reminder , this bug fix is only for existing Captioned Image components, as this component has been removed from the Sidekick.
  • LSA Global Navigation
This navigation has been added to the LSA Gateway and Portal websites.
  • File Issues
Isues with links to files such as PDFs, Word docs, Excel sheets, CVs, and other non-image files have been fixed. However, files with multiple periods in the file name are blocked by the firewall security rules. These files will need to be renamed.

Can be set to expire in 7 days. Please contact Web Services to enable this feature.

  • Asset DAM
Assets that are activated by staff, faculty, or staff on the front-end for people profiles will now be editable by web editors.
  • Google+ Field
