We Welcomed New LSA Technology Services Staff in May and June

Please join us in welcoming our new staff to LSA and Technology Services!
by Alyssa Longo, Business Operations and Communications Specialist

Six new team members joined us between May and June. Learn more about their positions and why they are excited to join LSA Technology Services. Welcome Kelly, Noah, Sean, Eliza, Max, and Nathan!

Kelly Armstrong, Desktop Support Apprentice

After graduating from the University of Michigan, Kelly worked several years in Silicon Valley at a semiconductor company, primarily in software version control and supporting UNIX workstations, before stepping away to raise her children. Most recently she completed her associates degree in IT from Washtenaw Community College.

Kelly joins our team as a Desktop Support Apprentice on the Hardware Lifecycle Team. What Kelly loves most is how every day is a little different, whether she is building a Dell laptop or a MacBook for a staff upgrade, preparing retired assets for disposition, or working with the procurement system for ergonomic equipment orders.

She is most excited about the opportunity to always be learning something new and getting exposed to different departments and great people while on the Hardware Lifecycle Team and in the desktop support regions in LSA.

Noah Dollar, Application Architect

Prior to joining our team, Noah worked for the State of Michigan in the Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS). Before that he worked for Thomson Reuters, providing network and technical support, QA, and later became a developer, building document services for tax professionals.

Noah joins us as an Application Architect where he will be taking ownership of several apps spread across the Web and Application Development Services team. He will make sure they are well supported and make any updates and improvements as needed.

He is most excited about the current investigation into new technology and architecture. Noah thinks it might be possible to bring many current apps into the same ecosystem, which would make supporting and improving them much easier.

Sean Fagan, Research Programmer

Previously, Sean was a software developer at the University of Texas for seven years and built custom web applications for various departments. He is also a hobbyist game developer with a knack for interactive audio.

Sean has joined the Research Programming team to primarily support the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument project, as well as various other projects that come to the Research team.

He is most excited about being surrounded by passionate and kind people and is looking forward to learning a lot from everyone!

Eliza Hughes, Desktop Support Specialist

Prior to joining our team, Eliza worked in Information Technologies, as well as a barista. She just recently graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelors in Computer Science

.Eliza will be a part of our Randall Desktop Support team supporting a wide variety of departments such as Anthropology, Astronomy, and Physics.

She is really excited to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful people, as well as getting the opportunity to indirectly support incredible research!

Max Johnson, Audio Visual Technician

Prior to joining our team, Max had been freelancing under his LLC, Max Harrison Media, for the past four years. He had also been working remotely as a Technical Support Specialist and Digital Marketing Director for an online company out of Maryland. Before that, he was helping a variety of small businesses create content for their online and social media marketing campaigns.

Max joins our Technical Assistance Group as an AV Tech. Currently, he is accepting calls for technical issues that arise in our LSA spaces. Max is also assisting with upgrades to Angell Hall Auditoriums A and B.

Along with the satisfaction of helping people everyday, Max is most excited about finally getting to work with a team of like-minded and skilled individuals. He has already felt so welcomed and accepted by his team members, and is looking forward to working with them for years to come!

Nathan Spears, Desktop Support Specialist

Nathan joins us from Dominos Global Care, where he spent the last two years working on their service desk. He holds a degree in Electronic Media and Film Studies from Eastern Michigan University and is also a freelance photographer and video editor.

Joining our Randall Desktop Support Team, Nathan will provide technical support to faculty, staff and students. His support will focus on teaching, learning, and research that occurs in our LSA natural science, social science, and humanities divisions.
