The University continues to develop more ways to protect data and people in response to the dynamic technology and security landscape.  As a result of changes initiated by the University’s SPG 601.27, Windows updates will need to be installed within 30 days of release.  Additionally, there is a monthly reboot required in order to fully install the updates. This change will help ensure devices are updated to protect against security threats.

What control do I have over when my computer reboots?

Setting Active Hours can help updates and reboots happen outside your active working hours. Default Active Hours are 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. To change these hours, please see these instructions. Once updates are installed, you can also reboot your computer at your convenience during the reminder window.

Are classroom machines affected?

What does it look like on my machine?

Once updates are pushed, there will be periodic reminders to reboot and install updates for a period of one week.
