Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 20, 2020.

The annual MLK Symposium runs through the month of January. This year the theme for the symposium is “The (Mis)Education of US.” The speaker for the Keynote Lecture is Angela Davis, a prominent activist, professor, and author whose work is rooted in social justice, gender equity, and race relations. From being featured on the FBI’s Most Wanted List for her activism in the 70’s to creating a national organization focused on prison reform, her work is truly significant to many social movements around the globe. For more information surrounding the symposium events throughout the month, be sure to check the Events page on the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives website. There also will be a mobile guide available through Guidebook to help navigate through all of the happenings.

The Technical Assistance Group (TAG) within LSA Technology Services supports this important event in a number of ways by providing projection support in a variety of LSA classrooms and audio service for panels and other larger groups. In addition, they administer equipment to record, stream, and provide video conferencing services to help make these events available to those not on campus. Specific events that have been supported in the past include departmental events honoring MLK Day, (Y)Our Story MLK Day, and Children's Day events in Modern Languages Building where school age children from the area are bussed in to participate.
