Q: Tell us a little about the work you do as a Desktop Support Specialist Supervisor for LSA Technology Services.
A: These days, I seem to spend much of my time in meetings! When not in meetings, I’m working on various projects in unison with the other supervisors, Laura Green and Kyle Roberts. Currently, I’m leading the communications for the Izzy (Mac OS) project and working on a desktop support hardware report which will help us balance the workload for desktop support folks. Next up is something near and dear to me, storage and backup solutions for our faculty and staff. In between projects, my greatest joy is managing and developing staff.
Q: What are some goals for your professional life in 2020? For your team?
A: I would like to see our teams develop what they are good at and find their stride doing what they enjoy. I strongly believe that if you lift everyone along the way, any path or challenge is much easier to navigate.
Q: What is your favorite part about your job?
A: By far, working with staff. I see all of our teams work tirelessly and I want to be at my best for them. It’s extremely important to me that each of them know they are appreciated and for me to say thank you for their hard work. I realize coming from desktop support, it often feels like a thankless job and I’m proud to have the opportunity to represent our groups.
Q: What is a (non-workplace) skill you would like to learn or you are currently learning?
A: I took piano lessons as a kid and think I would like to try that again. I would also like to learn some carpentry. I want to build things while I have an idea but I seldomly know what I’m actually doing so I don’t. I also think it would be cool to learn how to be a master locksmith!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you choose and why?
A: I absolutely love the States, and I love road trips! So anywhere I can find an adventure with my family, we will go, regardless of where it would be.
Q: When you are out of the office, what interests or hobbies do you enjoy?
A: I love to camp. We’ve gone all over Michigan, and nothing beats a beautiful Michigan day with a nice sandy beach! I also like to craft and paint for which I’m far better at than carpentry.
Q: What would people be surprised to learn about you?
A: That while I can ham it up and be a goof one on one, I’m terribly frightened of public speaking. I have complete and total stage fright. And I love to rescue dogs, and have a soft spot for all things kids! Family, kids, and puppies make my world a better place!
